Meet Benita
Somatic practice has shaped the way I move through the world — teaching me to live with greater presence, purpose, and connection.
My journey, enriched by years of learning, training, and lived experience, has led me to embodied mindfulness: a way of paying attention to what is happening within the body, so we can reconnect with ourselves and create more choice in how we meet life and its experiences.
I’m here to share that with you — meeting you exactly where you are.
Awaken your breath, move with presence, and meet your whole self.
Benita is a Somatic Coach & Practitioner who weaves embodied movement, reflective inquiry, and conscious breathing to guide people back into connection with themselves. Her approach is gentle and exploratory—prioritising how practices feel rather than how they look—and invites a return to steadiness through somatic awareness and compassionate self-understanding.
Shaped by experiences of adversity, alongside years of inner work and a love of books, writing, and poetry, Benita blends lived (and living) experience with ongoing professional training.
She calls Melbourne home after growing up across the USA, South Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
Benita’s background in law gives her insight into the pressures of modern professional life and the growing need for a more embodied and holistic approach to wellbeing.
As a passionate competitive tennis player, she also understands how stress and the weight of expectation are experienced in the body. Drawing on somatic tools in her own training and competition, she helps others stay composed, and responsive under pressure—whether in sport, leadership, or everyday life.
Through her 1:1 somatic coaching, workplace offerings, guided online practices, and reflective experiences, you’re invited to return to a grounded, steady, intentional way of being.
Her work is an invitation to tune into the details, rediscover the language of the body, and reconnect with the joy of being awake and alive.
Benita is so grateful you’ve landed here—welcome.
It can often feel like we are powerless to change our circumstances, but we do have the power to choose how we respond to them. By building a foundation of sustainable wellbeing, we can reclaim our attention, our connection, and our capacity to rediscover ourselves. The body is the way in.
Your Practice Begins Here, Now.
This is your invitation to reconnect with yourself—to find steadiness and ease in a world that so often feels busy, chaotic, and demanding.
From lived experience, I know it’s possible to step out of the cycle of disconnection, build a sustainable foundation for wellbeing, and rediscover the magic of being here—awake and alive.
Through somatic coaching and embodied practices—movement, meditation, and conscious breathing—I guide people to rediscover a life of greater presence, purpose and joy.
When we practice as one—with ourselves, with each other, and with the world around us —we open the door to real and lasting transformation.
A Little of the Philosophy Behind My Life and Practice
Body, mind, and breath are not separate — they interplay as one.
So much of modern life pulls us away from ourselves. We move quickly, think constantly, and become disconnected from the subtle language of the body.
My work is an invitation to soften, and reconnect — to listen inward and rediscover the wisdom that has always been there, waiting to be noticed.
Through somatic coaching, conscious breathing, embodied movement, and mindfulness, we create space for deeper connection, embodied presence, and a steadier way of moving through the world.
1. Integration
The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit root yuj, which means to join or unite. While many Western approaches to yoga focus on asana—the physical postures—yoga is much more than just that. It encompasses a complete philosophy and practice, including pranayama (breath regulation), dhyana (meditation), ethical living through the yamas and niyamas and the unity of body, mind, and spirit. Yoga is a practice that invites balance, integration, and presence—not just on the mat, but in every part of life. For me, yoga is a way of living. It offers a path to live in alignment with oneself and the world, truly embodying the meaning of union.
2. Interconnectedness
In Buddhism, there is a profound teaching that everything is interconnected. No person, action, or moment exists in isolation—we are all part of an intricate web of life. I’m fascinated by this philosophy, especially since our culture of individualism often leads us to believe we are separate from the world around us. We're taught to focus on self-reliance, personal achievement, and independence, but this perspective can create the illusion that we exist in isolation. In reality, we are deeply interwoven with everything around us, each of us contributing to the whole.
3. Breathing As One
In his book Breath Taking, Lorin Roche eloquently describes how the breath connects us all.
“We all share the same breath. We are breathing the same air, and that is a connection that goes beyond words.”
Breathing reminds us that, regardless of our differences, we are connected by this life-giving force. Inhale, exhale—we are breathing as one.
4. Nature
The natural world is a beautiful example of interconnectedness. I’m in awe of a pair of lemon-scented gum trees in my yard. These trees share nutrients through their roots, provide space for birdlife to feed and play, and stand strong and adaptable in the wind. For me, yoga and meditation encourage us to mirror this harmony within ourselves and our relationships. Just as nature finds balance and strength as one, we can too when we find and honour the connections that sustain us.
5. Living Experience
The weaving together of movement and mindfulness has helped me bring together the fragmented parts of myself, allowing me to feel whole—to feel as one. These embodied practices have truly transformed the way I live and experience life, serving to further ground my belief that the body, the mind and the breath are not separate—they’re intimately connected as one.
My ongoing dedication to personal practice, exploration, and learning is what enables me to guide with authenticity, passion and depth. This reflects the heart of what I hope to share with others:
A path toward feeling more connected and balanced, no matter the challenges we face or those yet to come.
